The Google-Apple SEO Effect

or

“How to Instantly Tap into 275 Million iPod/iPad/iPhone Users and Instantly Engage Targeted Visitors Between Their Ears, One-Click away from a Google Search Result!”

by Jim Morris

It’s funny how you discover things.

Usually, it just so happens that a few sudden random events can tie together the whole entire understanding of social media or any one of the online disciplines that it takes to run a successful business.

Or one quick search in Google can lead to some unknown discovery and secret that allows you to leap into the heart of Google’s top search results.

Of course, none of this stuff or discoveries actually happen out of the ordinary just like that. There happens to be hundreds, if not, thousands upon thousands of hours of time, study and analysis to arrive at these quick insights.

Lately (having been at this now for over 9 years), I can tell you that the latest discoveries have been fruitful and they’ve been abundant.

The discovery of the Google-Apple SEO effect (or “The GAS Effect”) will change how SEO agencies, Corporate America, small business and boot strap entrepreneurs look at modern SEO for themselves, their clients and overall content distribution.

THE DISCOVERY

Had anyone told me the affect this had in Google, I would have put much stricter attention to this a year ago and uploaded all of my media.

But as I always say — “As we evolve, so we become enlightened.”

Thus far, I have currently done over 50 live and recorded webinars, now coming up on the 80th live show and countless numbers of interviews that were done with others. So I would have uploaded this library stuff a long time ago had I known the power of this effect.

If you haven’t done any kind of multi-media, video, screenshots of some kind, then you are going to miss out a huge chunk of where the internet is going, and that right into the hands of smart phone users that want to see multi-media which means audio and video.

Google puts a lot of stress on video and multi-media, otherwise, it wouldn’t have purchased the broke bandwidth hog, You Tube. And you would also known what exact media Google tends to favor if you listened to the Search Engine Seduction SEO Show Episode Two.

Back to the discovery…

I’m on Google.com doing a search to see if by chance Google had indexed a video I uploaded to Amazon’s S3 Simple Storage Service.

For one, I wasn’t at my main computer, and I couldn’t remember whether I had put a public link to the video which would have gotten the video page indexed by Google. While I was being lazy and needed to review the video, I also was curious to see whether Google actually indexes web pages that are hosted on Amazon’s S3 service.

Interestingly enough, I never found the video I wanted online, but I did find something else. :D

The search term I used on Google.com to try and find the video when I bumped into this was —–> jim morris doing seo in robe

iTunes Ranking from a Video Podcast Episode

So as you can see by opening that link up in a new window or looking at the screenshot above, you can see what the first listing is.

That top Google spot comes up as what looks to be a regular HTML page on Google that is located on iTunes massive library of content found on Apple.com.

What’s even more interesting is that when you click on the top line of the Google search engine listing, it launches causes your browser to launch multi-media on the iTunes portion of Apple.com. In fact, Windows users will get a dialog box popup right in front of the browser window like this after just one click from a Google search engine listing…

One Click Launch Right After Clicking on MultiMedia HTML link from Google

“WHAT THIS DOES THIS MEAN TO ME JIM?

What the above means is that:

1. Apple’s iTunes section is will create an HTML page for every single piece of multi-media that you get listed in iTunes and get ranked very easily due to the authority Google places on Apple.com. (NOTE: We are not covering the process of how to get listed on iTunes, but will provide some resources down below).

2. This also means that you have the ultimate control over the keywords and keyword phrases that go into your listing. Quite simply, your title and description comprise the content that Apple’s iTunes section puts in the HTML of the web page they create for your multi-media listings. If you’re truly anal like me and need to have proof of the SEO effect to make sure that the HTML page Apple creates has the episode information on it which I personally entered and have control over, check this screenshot out that reveals the page source code:

Reveal Source iTunes

3. As you can see up above, the words that you see in the TextPad file window in the forefront is part of the TITLE and the DESCRIPTION of the video that I uploaded to my video hosting center. (NOTE: iTunes does NOT host anything on their server as they are simply checking an iTunes formatted RSS Feed that you must register with them).

4. You can now turn your text content into audio or video (talent can be hired out to voice-over folks) and then get your iTunes content listed in Google’s pages. We already know that Google is extremely hotly seduced by multi-media and high PageRank sites.

5. iTunes now gives you the chance to be one click away from engaging your Google visitors with their eyes (video) and ears (audio and video).

The “Google-Apple SEO” Effect or The GAS Effect

An authority site can be defined in a number of ways. One such definition by Chris Rempel is: “A site that’s useful enough, memorable enough, meaningful enough or controversial enough that… visitor’s will actually tell others about it – involuntarily.”

I’m sure that we could define Apple’s iTunes worthy of fitting that description or definition.

And as Chris Brogan goes onto discuss how web authority is defined, we can certainly say that one of the factors mentioned in this article is quite relevant to how well Google admires a website, one is by showing a high PageRank.

When we take a quick look at Apple.com, we find that it is highly admired and respected by Google as an authority site with a PageRank 9.

Google has indexed 3,890,000 pages just on the iTunes sub-domain alone (at the time of this writing). Volume of content also speaks authority to Google as well.

Apple.com has an Alexa ranking of 52 and it’s software, iTunes, is installed on somewhere over 275 million computers around the world that connect and sync with iPods, iPhones, and now iPads.

To say that Apple.com is a huge magnetic authority site to get Google to rank content fast is an understatement, especially when you can control what content is input on the site.

So any piece of content with the proper keywords affixed to the TITLE and DESCRIPTION of the multi-media uploaded to an audio or video podcasting place can get ranked incredibly fast.

Now, I’m not trying to say that these are high demand keywords that I am getting listed for, this is merely an example. However, if you go type in “keyword research show” or “keyword research live” into Google, you’ll see that my live show takes up about 4 or 5 of the listings, one of those being an Apple iTunes listing.

IRONIC AND CONTROVERSIAL: I think this Google-Apple SEO (GAS) synergy that is occurring before our eyes is quite interesting in its timing given the fact that Steve Jobs relieved Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt from Apple’s board and dueling natures of both companies in the mobile arena (Google Android/Chrome OS and iPhone / MAC OS X Snow Leapard).

However controversial that may have been between the companies, I’ll bank on the fact that Apple’s iTunes content on Google.com will continue to grow on many years into the future and that PageRank 9 will continue to prosper 20, even 50 years into the future. And this means that taking advantage of this huge authority site’s ranking power is ripe for the taking right now.

But first, let’s…

Boost “The GAS Effect” with even More Google Muscle Ranking Power

Anyone who has been on my newsletter since 2004 or taken a digital video course with me since 2005 knows that I preach year in, year out, of how any site can boost it’s individual page’s ranking power with just one simple backlink.

You can simply add some extra ranking power to your iTunes listing once you know the HTML page that iTunes has created for you (similar to the URL in the 1st screenshot above).

All you have to do is use my 10-second RANK-Indexing solution which can be found under the first Google listing and then follow the second indented Google listing below that as a way to get an additional link to your iTunes HTML page (which is from another authority site). ;)

Conclusion: Parting Words

If you didn’t see the huge potential to utilize an incredibly strong authority site like Apple.com (and its Google ranking powers) to post content where you have control over the keywords through the TITLE and the DESCRIPTION, then my parting words won’t have much more of an impact on you.

However, if you do see the huge potential of getting your multi-media content onto iTunes, I am certain you are already learning how to get a podcast up or following the directions down below.

All I can truly say is that you need to either:

1. Find and upload all of your audio and video content to a hosting provider that can create an iTunes Feed for you (which iTunes requires);

2. Or learn how to create SEO Video without you and without a video camera and without your voice, which is great for hermits and those recluse types that are too shy. :D

3. Apple.com will actually teach you how to make a Podcast and get it listed on iTunes. And there are other ways to learn if you wish to learn directly from a Master Podcaster.

LIMITED TIME SPECIAL: If you would like to learn from the best on getting your media listed in iTunes and someone who has 325,000+ growing base of subscribers, my partner, Scott Paton, has created a step-by-step, full-length ebook called Podcasting Unleashed. It can be found at Podcasting-Unleashed.com and is sold at the regular price of $97.

However, through my own special business relationship with Mr. Paton, I can offer you a limited time 50% off Podcasting Unleashed by going through this page right here.

All I can say is just get that content loaded up and listed on iTunes.

Make certain to take time, care and put in the keyword research for your media’s Title and Description which is the most critical.

Here’s an example what some people usually do for their Title and Description:

Title: Episode 1 – The Beginning

Description: This is Episode 1 of The Beginning, part of Totally Uproarious Humor.

I’m sorry, but that’s horrid and no wonder people never get found and get no value whatsoever out of their video submissions.

Okay, so here’s a makeover and what I really think it takes for you to get good results.

Now, be sure to realize that this is just an example and I would obviously do my keyword research before with my own tool, NicheBOT. I would definitely want to search all the different keyword databases to get the overall most popular keywords to use in my title.

So this is what my ultimate makeover example would be like:

Title: How to Make a Person Laugh | Episode One | Jim Morris | Totally Uproarious Humor

Description: In episode one of Totally Uproarious Humor, the creator Jim Morris takes an in depth look at how to make a person laugh and the different scenarios that come into play. Yes, even you didn’t think that this one question that Jim reveals could actually open up the tickle funny bone of someone and open the pathways to make them laugh like a child. Oh boy, you have no clue how much more fun you are going to have with people and become inspired to try these incredible techniques that will turn those who are in a bad mood into an awesome mood. Yeah, people will actually be thanking you for spoiling their bad mood and bring some brightness, laughter and cheer into their world. You may even find a way or two to help you overcome those looming bad moods that tend to spoil your day. Look at it as a way to tickle your own funny bone and those of others around you.

DISCLOSURE: While I want to stress that ALL of the above was completely made up and none of it really exists, that I know of, but I also want you to see how appealing these types of descriptions can be for individuals at the search engine level or even when they land on the page. The above description was made to tease you and the visitor to want to watch the video that then informs and directs the visitor where to move on. Remember, that you constantly want to be directing the visitor to an end goal in mind.

Lastly, let’s consider all this takes.

A piece of audio or video.

A title and description.

Let’s not forget — you would take the time to create your own web page full of content anyways. That’s why it’s important to take the effort to right a good description and also have good keyword tags.

This little bit is all the content you need for your multi-media to get ranked in Google, deliver the message. The content is an important ingredient that search engine spiders snack on as their s food and tells them the full range of what your audio or video is about.

Right now, I’ve got probably around 79 episodes under my name in iTunes, but I can tell you that will be sharply increasing for the remainder of 2010 and well well beyond into the sunset.

I’ll see you on the other side! ;)
